A person is dead after crashing a car into a tree in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police received reports around 5 a.m. Saturday about the accident near Happy Valley Road and 53rd Avenue.
According to a police spokesperson, the victim was driving a Nissan Altima east along Happy Valley Road when it crossed into the westbound lanes, drove up a curb and hit a tree.
The driver died at the scene, officials said.
The driver was the only person in the car and their name hasn't been released at this time.
It's unknown if impairment played a role in the accident.
