PHOENIX — The conversation with kids and teens about drugs, alcohol, and vaping can be uncomfortable.
Some parents may not know even how to start talking about it.
However, Valley behavioral health experts believe communication is the best tool for prevention.
The Rebound Arizona spoke with Valley non-profit notMYkid about their upcoming virtual workshop to help steer kids and teens on the right path, no matter how stressful and scary things are right now.
"If we can educate and empower both groups and get them on the same page... working together, communicating together, being proactive... that is how we create change," said notMYkid's Shane Watson.
Parents and teens will each be in their own group, so the youth can be more candid and honest. While parents will receive specific information on signs to watch for, drug paraphernalia, and the tools needed to start talking with their children.
The goal is to provide empathy to those who are struggling and education to help, which can start a family dialogue after the session is over.
The teen workshop is Friday, October 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. and the adult workshop is from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
