DPS: Wrong-way driver killed in crash on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a wrong-way driver is dead and a second person suffered critical injuries following a crash near Casa Grande. The collision is the 15th wrong-way incident reported in the Valley so far this year.

Around 7 a.m. Sunday, authorities received reports of a collision on Interstate 10 near milepost 190.

According to a DPS spokesperson, a car was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck another vehicle head-on. The driver has been identfied as 72-year-old Owen Eschief of Bapchule.

Eastbound lanes were closed for some time for the investigation.

Earlier this year, ABC15 News investigated two sections along Interstate 10 that do not have barriers separating eastbound and westbound lanes.

Since Jan. 21, 2018, there have been 14 other wrong-way incidents and four fatalities reported in the Valley.
