DPS: Wrong-way driver causes crash on I-10 near Casa Grande

CASA GRANDE, AZ — A driver is accused of being impaired before a wrong-way crash occurred near Casa Grande on Wednesday evening.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Casa Grande police were made aware of a vehicle traveling erratically on SR-387 northbound, south of Interstate 10.

A few minutes later, around 7:50 p.m., a vehicle matching the description was reported traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-10 near the junction.

DPS says the vehicle collided head-on with a commercial vehicle in the right lane. A second vehicle also hit the back of the commercial vehicle after the head-on collision.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle showed signs of alcohol consumption and was taken to the hospital. She has not yet been identified.

The driver of the commercial vehicle and second vehicle that struck the commercial vehicle were treated on scene for minor injuries.

DPS says charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, wrong-way driving and aggravated DUI are being submitted.
