CASA GRANDE — A skydiving instructor died during a tandem jump near Casa Grande on Friday, according to Ian Gregor, the communications manager for the FAA Pacific Division.

A female student was hospitalized following the skydiving incident, but her condition is unclear at this time.

An FAA safety inspector was sent to the accident site Friday afternoon as the cause of the man's death is still under investigation, Gregor says.

"The FAA's skydiving accident investigations typically focus on whether the instructor was properly certificated and whether the parachutes were properly packed by the appropriate person," Gregor said in a statement to ABC15.

The identity of the instructor has not been released by officials.
