A man in Eloy has died after he was hit by a train, said police.

Sgt. Brian Jerome, spokesman for Eloy Police Department, said officers were called to the area of Houser Road and Frontier at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26 to investigate a report of a person being hit by a train.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as 53-year-old Douglas Bryan, a local transient, dead, said police.

The conductor of the Union Pacific train, which was traveling eastbound through Eloy, told police that he saw the man walking along the tracks and sounded the train's horn.

The man reportedly looked back and continued to walk along the tracks, even waving his hand before being struck.

Jerome said police do not yet know why Bryan was walking along the tracks or why he did not move once the train sounded its horn.
