HAYDEN, AZ — Officers from two departments in eastern Arizona were injured trying to apprehend a suspect Wednesday night.
According to the Kearny Police Department, one of its officers and one from the Hayden Police Department were hit by a vehicle on Highway 177 between Hayden and Winkleman.
The officers were trying to stop a suspect wanted in connection with an unspecified incident at a gas station earlier that night.
The Hayden officer suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. The Kearny officer suffered major injuries, was flown to a nearby hospital, and went into surgery. In a post to the department's Facebook page Thursday, he was said to be in serious, but stable, condition.
The suspect was caught a short time later and taken to the Gila County Jail.
Kearny police said the departments from Superior and Globe along with the Gila and Pinal sheriff's offices and the Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted with the investigation.
Further details were not immediately available.
