MARICOPA, AZ — Arizona Department of Public Safety says a fiery wrong-way crash shut down a portion of SR-347 near Maricopa on Wednesday night.
DPS reportedly received calls about a red Dodge pickup truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of SR-347 near Clayton Road around 8:15 p.m. Shortly after, they were told the pickup collided head-on with an SUV near Miller Road.
A 32-year-old woman was driving the SUV with her children, ages 9, 12 and 15, as passengers. All of them were able to escape the SUV before both cars caught fire.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, a 26-year-old man, also escaped the fiery crash.
All involved were taken to the hospital with injuries, but DPS says the woman driving the SUV has already been released from the hospital.
The 26-year-old man is being investigated for impairment.
