A 30-year-old man was hospitalized following a bear attack Sunday south of Patagonia.
Mark Hart of Arizona Game and Fish said the attack happened at 2:15 p.m. Sunday south of town, west of Harshaw Road in the Washington Camp area.
The man suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to the arms and back. He was treated and released from a Nogales hospital.
The bear is a black bear with brown fur and blonde streaks.
This was the first known incident involving the bear.
Game and Fish officials ask anyone who sees the bear to call 623-236-7201 and to scare it off. People in the area are asked to secure their garbage until pickup day.
