SAN LUIS, AZ — Two young women have been arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle fentanyl across the border at a port of entry south of Yuma.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection says both women had the fentanyl duct taped around their stomachs, totaling about one-quarter of a pound.

The U.S. women, ages 18 and 20, were both referred by officers at the Port of San Luis for additional inspection after canines were alerted to scents on their bodies. Both were attempting to enter the U.S. on foot at different points in the day.

In total, the packages were estimated to be worth $53,000.

CBP officers seized the drugs, while both subjects were arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
