The state Department of Transportation plans a months-long project to refurbish a highway tunnel in east-central Arizona and says traffic restrictions will be in place during some of the work.

ADOT says a $3 million project in the Queen Creek Tunnel on U.S. 60 near Superior will start Monday.

The work includes replacing the existing lighting system with an LED system, retrofitting the current electrical control building and cleaning the tunnel's walls and ceiling.

The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

ADOT says the work will require speed restrictions and lane closures at times, with different lanes needing to be closed depending on what work is being done.

The work will be done Mondays through Thursdays. For specific closure and restriction info, click here.
