Christine Mustafa landfill search extended for 3 weeks

Police are nearing the end of their planned nine-week search of a Phoenix-area landfill for a missing 34-year-old woman believed to be a homicide victim.

Now they want to extend the search for another three weeks.

Police say the original nine-week projection was based on the size of the area detectives identified as the most probable area where the remains of Christine Mustafa may be located.

But they won't get through the entire identified area by Friday's deadline, so police are extending the search until they've covered the entire area.

The search began Oct. 23 for Mustafa's remains.

She was reported missing on May 11.

A Feb. 22 trial is scheduled for Mustafa's ex-boyfriend, Robert John Interval.

He pleaded not guilty June 27 to a first-degree murder charge.
