Crews to begin months-long project on San Pedro River bridge

Posted

Arizona transportation officials say work on a San Pedro River bridge is expected to cause minor delays for the next several months in Cochise County.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the bridge, which is on State Route 92, will initially be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday for construction improvements.

Workers will be putting up construction barriers, a traffic signal and temporary striping.

After that, the bridge will be open but traffic will be reduced to one lane while crews do work on the other.

Motorists are advised to use Palominas and Hereford roads instead.

The project on the 61-year-old bridge is expected to be finished in June 2017.

ADOT officials say the bridge, which was built in 1955, no longer meets modern standards.
