State Route 77 southeast of the Valley was closed Sunday morning after a deadly crash involving two cars and a group of horses.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a black passenger car struck part of a group of eight horses in the roadway just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Troopers say the driver of the passenger car was killed in the collision.
Three of the horses also died at the scene and a fourth had to be put down due to injuries.
Shortly after, a pickup truck struck one of the horses, damaging the vehicle, but fortunately that driver was not injured.
Traffic on SR-77 was blocked at milepost 132 through the morning and rerouted through Dudleyville.
The name of the driver who passed away on scene has not yet been released.
