I-10 in S. AZ to close briefly for large truck

Posted

State troopers will briefly close eastbound Interstate 10 near Benson in southeastern Arizona on Sunday morning to allow an oversize truck to travel one mile the wrong way on the freeway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the half-hour closure of eastbound I-10 will begin at approximately 6 a.m. at the State Route 90 interchange about 40 miles east of Tucson.

ADOT says a westbound 227-foot-long truck carrying a larger transformer to California needs to briefly travel on I-10's eastbound lanes. That's because the truck is too large to navigate one bridge and too heavy for another.

ADOT encourages eastbound drivers to adjust their travel schedules or allow extra travel time.

Westbound traffic on I-10 will not be affected.
