Officials say a structure fire has grown and spread into a brush fire that has consumed a handful of homes in the historic part of the city.
The fire started in a vacant home on Star Avenue around 5 p.m. Due to the compact nature of the area and high winds, the flames quickly spread to surrounding brush and traveled up the mountain.
Six structures have been damaged, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. A total of 5.1 acres had been burned as of Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

Those fighting the fire said the wind and steep terrain hampered firefighting efforts.
