The state Board of Regents has approved a three-year contact for Dr. Robert Robbins as the new University of Arizona president.
The contract approved Friday will pay Robbins $988,000 per year, more than any other university president in state history.
In addition to his annual $600,000 salary, Robbins' contract includes an annual $70,000 housing allowance and an annual $10,000 car allowance.
Robbins will be taking a pay cut from the $1.2 million-plus salary he earned as CEO of Texas Medical Center.
He's replacing UA President Ann Weaver Hart, who announced last year that she would not seek a contract extension but would remain at the helm until a replacement was named.
Hart will work as a university professor and take a one-year paid sabbatical after Robbins starts on June 1.
