Suspected drug smugglers caught on camera

Posted

Border Patrol agents conducting surveillance in Southern Arizona spotted two suspected drug smugglers riding horseback through Arizona's desert.

Surveillance video--albeit it a little shaky--shows the two individuals and their horses making their way northbound from Sasabe, where the two individuals are believed to have entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico.

Authorities said the two individuals got off the horses and ran back to Mexico once they heard the helicopters. Agents recovered both horses and 95 1/2 pounds of marijuana valued at $48,000.

Raleigh Leonard, division chief, said in a press release, "Improved technology has enhanced our ability to deter, detect, identify, classify and resolve border incursions."

The horses will be handed over to the Arizona Department of Agriculture.

The public can report suspicious activity to Border patrol at 1-877-872-7435.
