TUCSON, Ariz. - The City of Tucson moving forward in raising the age to buy tobacco and vaping products to 21.

Tucson City Council members voted 4 to 3 to approve the ordinance in Thursday night's study session.

Council members first brought up raising the age restriction in August of 2018.

Pima County rejected a similar ordinance in August of 2019.

The city council will meet for a formal vote on October 22. The ordinance would go into effect on January 1, 2020, with a 90-day education period for retailers.
