Officers with the Arizona Game and Fish Department killed a mountain lion in Patagonia Friday, saying it posed an immediate threat to the community.
According to a news release from AZGFD, the animal was about two years old and had been seen repeatedly in the area for at least a year. Just since January, it was seen eating a javelina under a mobile home and was suspected of eating a goat nearby.
AZGFD also says the lion was resistant to hazing and had got within three feet of an officer in another incident Sunday.
“The mountain lion posed an immediate threat to the community,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of Game and Fish in Tucson. “It was persisting in a residential area apparently unafraid of people, was emaciated and in apparently poor health.”
Officials will conduct a necropsy on the animal and test it for rabies.
