A wrong-way vehicle fled the scene after causing a deadly crash on I-17 near Sunset Point early Monday morning.
The crash happened before 12:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Officials say a wrong-way vehicle, only described as a black Mustang, was reported in the northbound lanes near milepost 256.
A second vehicle tried to miss the southbound vehicle and hit an embankment in the median. A third vehicle then hit that vehicle.
DPS says the driver of the second vehicle, later identified as 64-year-old Thomas Roy Langgood, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A commercial vehicle was struck by debris and a fifth vehicle hit the guardrail and took off.
The wrong-way vehicle has yet to be located.
