One person is dead following a UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) crash in New River on Sunday afternoon.
The Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical Department said crews responded to a crash involving a pickup truck and a UTV on New River Road near the Interstate 17 Frontage Road, in front of the Road Runner Saloon.
The vehicles hit head-on. The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to recover.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the driver and passenger of the UTV were thrown from the vehicle. The driver, 45-year-old Terry Wibel died on the scene. A female passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Initial reports indicate the ITV was having a wheel issue that caused the vehicle to swerve into the opposite lane.
