Thousands waited in a line that stretched out the side door Wednesday to pick up pre-ordered Thanksgiving pies at a well-known Arizona restaurant.
“It’s the best pie in the state,” said John Dusch, who ordered three pies from Rock Springs Cafe. Dusch said he’s been coming to the restaurant, located off I-17 in Black Canyon City, for more than 25 years. Every holiday season, “the crowd gets a little bigger, the line gets a little bit longer,” he told ABC15.
One of the managers, Angel Brunk, said the restaurant — celebrating its centennial — received around 6,000 pie pre-orders. This month, she’s expecting to sell around 14,000 pies — the most ever.
“My bakers are pulling 18- to 20-hour days,” she said.
“Our number one pie is [Jack Daniel’s] pecan and then the mixed berry crumb,” Brunk said.
If you’re a “pie procrastinator,” she said a limited number will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis on Thanksgiving Day.
“We’ll have pie on the floor — it may not be exactly what everybody wants, but there will be something for sale.”
