Deputies have identified a rider killed in a motorcycle crash in Carefree on Sunday evening as 53-year-old Vincent Rollen.
The single-vehicle accident happened at Cave Creek and Pima roads around 6 p.m.
According to deputies, Rollen was traveling eastbound on Cave Creek Road when for unknown reasons he crossed over the center line into the gravel-filled median.
Once in the gravel media, Rollen reportedly collided with a three-foot-tall barrel cactus, causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle.
He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening.
Deputies say speed and impairment are being investigated as factors in the crash.
Rollen was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
