A motorcyclist was seriously hurt Sunday night when he ran a stop sign and slammed into an oncoming vehicle, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said that witnesses reported seeing the 36-year-old motorcyclist fail to stop at Cave Creek and School House roads, and driving erratically right into a Grand Marquis that was turning onto the intersection.

The motorcyclist, identified as Scott Edwards Jr., was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Deputies said they are investigating whether impairment was a factor in the crash.
