Driver killed, passenger hurt after hitting pole near Loop 101 in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — One person is dead and another person is hurt after a single-car crash in Scottsdale overnight.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the crash occurred early Friday morning when a driver was exiting Loop 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard. The vehicle lost control, hit a light pole off to the right side of the embankment, and caught fire.

DPS says the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, only identified as a woman, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

It's unknown what caused the crash.
