SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Firefighters across the Valley are getting wash down kits thanks to the 100 Club of Arizona.

The cleaning kits help take off soot and residue after a fire. It also serves as a way to help prevent cancer among firefighters.

According to researchers at U of A, 80% of harsh chemicals can be removed through a scrub down before the firefighters get out of their equipment.

"All the furniture today and lot of things are made out of plastics," said Eric Valliere, Scottsdale's Assistant Fire Chief.

"When those burn, they release all these toxins that can absorb in the firefighter's bodies when they're fighting fire."

The 100 Club says it already spent $36,000 on the kits to distributed throughout parts of Arizona. The kits contain Dawn dish soap, brushes and hose attachments.
