Talk about adding insult to injury.

On three separate occasions 45-year-old Angela Ashworth is accused of stealing from hospital patients who were away from their rooms in surgery.

Court documents show that Mesa police arrested Ashworth after she was detained at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa when she was identified as the person responsible for committing a theft there on Dec. 24.

When police searched her they also found a drivers license and a check from another victim who had items stolen while she was in surgery on Sept. 7 at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn.

That victim was in surgery for a broken bone and when she returned to her room she noticed several items missing including her driver's license, credit cards, check book and about $5,000 worth of jewelry.

Four days later Ashworth struck again at the same hospital. This time, while the patient was still in surgery, she used one of her victim's credit cards to get gas at a nearby Fry's.

Police say Ashworth admitted "to commonly being at hospitals and loitering around until she found an empty room."

Ashworth is facing multiple counts of theft and Identity theft.
