PARADISE VALLEY, AZ — A man died Saturday after being involved in a shooting with Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort.

Paradise Valley police officials said the shooting happened Saturday as officers attempted to serve a search warrant for several people at the resort located near Scottsdale and Indian Bend roads.

Police were able to take two people into custody but the third person, who authorities said they believed was armed, barricaded himself and refused to leave his room.

Just after 8 a.m., police requested help from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) SWAT team. Once the SWAT team arrived at the scene, they began to negotiate with the person who was barricaded for several hours.

The person refused multiple requests to exit the resort room leading the SWAT team to enter and attempt to take the individual into custody.

Authorities said the person allegedly confronted the deputies and threatened them with a firearm.

Deputies responded using lethal force and an MCSO medic tried life-saving measures but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation for this shooting remains ongoing and no other details were provided at this time.

This is the sixth shooting involving police in 2021.
