Authorities say the suspect was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on Hayden approaching Chaparral when he ran a red light and struck the victim's vehicle.
The victim, 46-year-old Ryan Ralph Thomas, was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police say the suspect remains in the hospital in serious condition.
Alcohol impairment was a factor in this incident, said Scottsdale Sgt. Ben Hoster.
