SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Health officials are investigating a possible tuberculosis exposure at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.
A spokesperson for the hospital, located near 92nd Street and Shea Boulevard, said the Maricopa County Public Health Department has not confirmed the TB diagnosis, but recommended "a thorough investigation" and preventative treatment for the most vulnerable potential patients.
"We have not been able to confirm the diagnosis, but because TB cannot be ruled out, we are recommending that exposed patients at high risk be offered preventive treatment to protect them from severe disease," said Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, medical director for Disease Control for Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
The health department has recommended that anyone who may have been exposed receive a TB evaluation. Officials have reportedly reached out to all patients at risk and provided options for testing and possible treatment if necessary. Anyone who has spent time at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center and has not heard from MCDPH has been determined to not be at risk from the exposure.

"We empathize with each person and their loved ones, and we are committed to providing appropriate support. The safety of our patients, their families and our staff remains our top priority."
