SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A shelter puppy in the care of a foster family is recovering after quite the scare last week.
Foothills Animal Rescue says Latte, one of four three-month-old puppies it had placed with a foster parent, went out early Friday morning for a supervised potty break. All of the pups went around the corner of the house, but only three came back.
The foster family posted online about the missing dog and went out looking for it.
Golfers at Troon found Latte about 12 hours later. The puppy was dehydrated and weak under a tree on the 16th hole.
Latte spent the weekend at a veterinary clinic to recover. The dog suffered no broken bones, but the rescue says puncture wounds from the owl's talons are visible in its skull.
Latte will remain in foster care for a few more weeks and may already have an adopter.
Foothills Animal Rescue is looking for donations to help cover the costs of Latte's treatment, which is approximately $4,500. Donations can be made on AZ Gives Day (Tuesday, April 2nd) by going here.
