Police say the Department of Public Safety's Explosive Unit has rendered safe a suspicious item reported inside a vehicle Sunday morning.

Patrol officers observed a vehicle parked across from Scottsdale City Court, 3700 N. 75th Street, around 8:15 a.m. A certified explosives dog signaled the presence of possible explosive materials.

Authorities evacuated one square block from Second Street to Osborn Road and Miller Road to Drinkwater Boulevard. Several residential homes and complexes were within the evacuation area.

Investigators did not find any explosive materials inside the vehicle, according to a Scottsdale police spokesperson.

Police said the vehicle is a decommissioned police cruiser, which might contain residual scents and explain why the dog signaled the presence of such materials.

The evacuations have been lifted and the area has been reopened to traffic.

The incident remains under investigation.
