DPS investigating deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 40

The Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly wrong-way crash that happened near Winslow Saturday afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 12:45 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 40 at milepost 218, according to DPS officials.

An orange Kia sedan was reportedly traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with a tan-colored RV. Both vehicles caught fire and blocked all lanes of traffic.

DPS says the driver of the Kia died at the scene, but has yet to be identified.

The driver of the RV, a 76-year-old man from Pearblossom, California, was taken to a Flagstaff hospital with unknown injuries.

No further information has been released.
