Authorities say remains found over the weekend likely belong to a man who was reported missing 11 years ago.
In a news release, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office says hunters found human remains west of Highway 89 and south of the Navajo Nation boundary on October 7.
Deputies confirmed the remains were human, and an investigation with the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office is ongoing.
Investigators suspect the remains belong to Jackie McClellan, Jr., who went missing in November 2007. At the time, he was reported to have last been seen walking from the family's sheep camp near Cameron.
The remains found by the hunters were in the general area of the sheep camp.
Positive identification of the remains is still pending, the sheriff's office said.
