Parts of northern Arizona are in the early stages of a winter storm warning that stretches through Wednesday at 12 p.m.
Snow started falling in Flagstaff just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, and people who had to be outside said it is important to be prepared.
"You don't want to get caught in the snow," said George Walton, who spoke to ABC15 as he was walking to his girlfriend's house. He was wearing a thick, winter jacket on top of several other layers.
"It's really cold," he said.
And Walton was not alone. Three coats, two shirts, two pair of jeans, and two pair of socks is how Cedric Smith planned to stay warm as he walked through eastern Flagstaff.
Plow trucks crisscrossed streets and highways in and around Flagstaff, working to keep the roads as safe as possible.
The snowfall should be at its heaviest overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
