More snow packed the slopes in the high country Tuesday, and it’s become a skier’s delight in Flagstaff!

Many, sliding into the new year on the slopes.

“I like winter!” said Emily Montenegro.

Montenegro tried sledding for the first time with her family. They're visiting from Maricopa.

“I was going down the hill right here and there was like a little hill and I went up and I fell on my bone,” she told ABC15.

Though, she shook it off and got back on the slope.

“How do you like it so far?” we asked.

“It’s pretty fun,” said Montenegro.

“A little dangerous at times?” asked ABC15.

“Yeah!” she added.

Ethan Habegger from Yuma, shares those sentiments.

“I went skiing and did a triple-aerial and then landed on my face,” he said.

The 7-year-old says, so far, Flagstaff has been an amazing experience with his mom, dad, and brothers.

“It’s snowed basically every day we’ve been in Flagstaff this year,” Habegger told ABC15.

“And do you think it’s cold?” we asked.

“Sometimes,” he responded.

“You warm up with that sled huh?” we asked.

“Yeah,” Habegger answered.

While some hit the slopes, others like Marco Ortiz and his loved ones battled it out with fresh powder.

They're visiting from Mexico.

Ortiz left in awe of how Flagstaff looks this time of year.

“It’s really pretty right now. I really like it.”

Ortiz added they might just have to make the trip up, next winter.

The Arizona Department of Transportation tells ABC15 it’s best drivers do the following to stay safe on the road:

  • Slow down and leave extra room to prevent crashes, in case the roads are slick, wet or icy.
  • Plan ahead to ensure you leave your destination with plenty of time and avoid rushing on the road.
  • Be prepared and dress for cold weather (freezing conditions) if traveling into the high country. Also bring extra clothes and have an emergency bag ready to go (with flashlight, blankets, ice scraper, etc….
  • Follow National Weather Service for updates
  • Visit ADOT’s Traveler Information site at az511.gov before heading out or call 511 for highway conditions.
