A 36-year-old Arizona man is accused of renting out a home that he did not own.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, Jason Wendell Van Clief was arrested on Tuesday and booked into jail on a felony count of fraudulent schemes/artifices.

Deputies were at a convenience store near Beale and Sixth Street when a woman approached them and accused Clief of scamming her out of $1,000.

The woman told deputies that Clief, who initially identified himself as Jason Can Clief, listed a home for rent on social media in December. The woman and her boyfriend took Clief up on the offer, but turns out that he did not own the home nor had any legal rights to it, said police.

Clief denied knowing the boyfriend or woman or having anything to do with the alleged crimes.

The Kingman Police Department reported that it is working a similar case involving Clief.
