Officials in Coconino County are investigating after a toddler was attacked by a dog while out camping with his family.
According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday a boy was with his family camping at the Spillway Campground at Woods Canyon Lake when a pitbull attacked him.
Officials say the dog was chained to a tree when the boy and his 6-year-old brother were playing with toys.
The boys threw a toy near the dog when the toddler was attacked.
The boy suffered severe injuries to his scalp and face. He was taken to the Phoenix Children's Hospital in stable condition for treatment of his injuries.
Coconino animal control officials are investigating. The dog belonged to the boy's mother's roommate.
