Authorities are investigating after a human skull was found in the Verde River in Yavapai County.
Earlier this month, officials say a swimmer came across the skull while swimming in the Verde River in Clarkdale near one of the river's access points.
The man told officials that he stepped on the skull and initially thought it was a smooth rock before picking it up.
The man called Clarksdale police after realizing what he had found, police said.
The skull is now being examined by investigators and no additional information was immediately available.
