A Grand Canyon National Park ranger was involved in a shooting overnight. 

According to Grand Canyon National Park officials, the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday on the South Rim. 

Officials say the ranger and suspect both sustained minor injuries. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in custody.

It's unclear at this time what led to the shooting.

Officials say the National Park Service's Investigative Services Branch and FBI are investigating. 

Officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

The park remains open and all visitor services are available.
