Road near Lake Powell reopens after rockslide

Posted

A highway in southern Utah near Lake Powell has reopened after a rockslide Friday afternoon blocked both lanes of traffic.

Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Kevin Kitchen says Utah State Route 276 reopened around noon Saturday after the debris was cleared.

Kitchen did not have details about the rockslide or its size but said it's not unusual to see debris on that area of the remote highway, about 15 miles from the Halls Crossing Marina at in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The highway's closure overnight blocked access to the marina by road but cars could still get there by ferrying across Lake Powell.

Kitchen says he had not heard any reports of traffic problems from the closure and the road typically receives only light traffic.
