PHOENIX — The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors will choose between a former state lawmaker, a former secretary of state and a Republican activist to replace a state representative accused of paying teens for sex in the 1980s.
GOP precinct committee leaders met Sunday to debate nominees for the seat vacated by former Rep. David Stringer, who resigned last week amid an ethics probe that turned up a 1983 Baltimore police report of sex crimes allegations.
Stringer has denied the charges. The supervisors will choose between former Rep. Steve Pierce, former Secretary of State and Senate President Ken Bennett and Republican organizer Steven Sensmeier.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that Pierce is the front-runner. He says he'd finish Stringer's two-year term but would not run for the seat.
