PRESCOTT, AZ — A pursuit suspect drove off a cliff and bailed out of their car in attempt to avoid being taken into custody, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

DPS says the incident started as a report of a stolen vehicle on the I-17 near Anthem late Monday night.

The suspect, John Jaimes, 29, of Las Vegas, Nevada, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit continued into Prescott Valley where Jaimes tried to carjack at least two vehicles, unsuccessfully.

The pursuit continued through Prescott and then onto SR89. That’s when Jaimes drove over a cliff near milepost 303 and bailed out of the car, according to DPS.

DPS says Jaimes was found nearby hiding in trees. Jaimes was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and then taken into custody.

Jaimes faces multiple felony charges including failure to comply with a police officer, DUI and criminal damage.

The vehicle, which ended up about 500 feet down a canyon, has not been removed.

No troopers were injured in the incident.
