MAYER, AZ — Officials say a fire that ignited Thursday has grown to an estimated 894 acres.

The Orme Fire is burning in the Prescott National Forest about seven miles northeast of Mayer.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, the wildfire was burning in grass and shrubs.

Fire crews used burnout operations on the northeast corner of the fire to help slow progression as winds pushed the fire north and east. Officials said control lines were implemented to help reduce fuels along and ahead of the fire, which will decrease the chances for the fire to burn uncontrollably in the area. Fire crews say they expect to have 100 percent containment by Saturday.

Orme Road south of Highway 169 remains closed to the public while fire crews continue to battle the blaze. For the latest road conditions and closures, click here.

There was no immediate information about how the fire started, but fire officials are conducting an active investigation.
