A 73-year-old man has died after his SUV plowed into a gas pump Sunday evening.

The incident happened around 5:11 p.m. in the area of Gurley Street and Sheldon Street in Prescott.

Prescott police say the victim was traveling at a high rate of speed when he went off the road and into the fueling area of a Circle K. The man's car hit an unoccupied vehicle and then plowed into the gas pumps causing his SUV to turn over. The force of the crash dislodged the gas pumps causing them to topple onto another car on the opposite side.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased on scene. Police say no one else was seriously hurt.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation

The victim is not being identified at this time.

Traffic in the area was restricted for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
