Police: Suspect at large after stabbing man several times in Cottonwood

Police are searching for a 23-year-old man after he reportedly stabbed another man several times in Cottonwood on Friday night. 

According to the Cottonwood Police Department, Benjamin Pita is being sought for stabbing a 53-year-old man in the face, neck, arm, and chest while the victim was driving. 

Police say the stabbing happened in the area of State Route 260 and Thousand Trails Road. 

After the stabbing, Pita reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. 

Another passenger moved the victim to the passenger's seat and drove the victim to a local store where they then called the police. 

The victim was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center and remains in critical condition at this time.

Several agencies searched the area but were unable to locate Pita. 

Police describe Pita as being Native American, 6 feet tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and several tattoos. 

He was last seen wearing a black and yellow shirt. Police say Pita is currently on supervised federal parole. 

Police say those in the car know each other and that the motive for the stabbing isn't known.
