New H.A.W.K. crosswalk signal makes walk to school safer for Ahwatukee kids

A new high intensity activate crosswalk is making your child's walk to school a little safer.

The H.A.W.K signal will be on starting Wednesday in the Kyrene School District, near Kyrene de los Cerritos Elementary and Kyrene Altadeña Middle School.

This type of signal is aimed to keep pedestrians safer, which is obviously so important near schools.

Officials are holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday and will also demonstrate to the public how this signal works.

While several of these special crosswalk signals are already in use around the Valley, many drivers don't know the proper way to approach them. Watch the video in the player above to learn more.
