Prison suspects homicide in AZ inmate death

Posted

Arizona Department of Corrections officials say they're investigating the death of an inmate last weekend as a suspected homicide.

They say 24-year-old Daniel Allard was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday after staff at the state prison in Douglas found him unresponsive but breathing in a recreation area of his assigned unit.

He died late Saturday.

DOC investigators believe Allard died from injuries he received during an assault by another inmate.

They say an investigation into the death is continuing and all inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county medical examiner's office.

Allard was housed at the medium custody Mohave Unit at Arizona State Prison Complex-Douglas.

He was serving a 2 1/2-year sentence out of Mohave County for trafficking in stolen property.
