Peter Fine, president and CEO of Phoenix-based Banner Health, ranked No. 6 on Modern Healthcare's list of the country's highest-paid not-for-profit health system executives and board members.
The 2017 data — the most recent available — was released in the national trade publication's June 24 issue, showing Fine's 2017 earned compensation was $8.54 million, a 6.9% increase from 2016.
The data also shows Banner Health had $3.8 billion in payroll expenses in 2017, putting his compensation at 0.22% of total payroll.
Overall, the country's highest-paid not-for-profit health system executives had a 33% raise in 2017, according to Modern Healthcare's report, jumping to $197.9 million in 2017 from $148.6 million in 2016.
